W5- Cyberbullying

What is Cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is bullying that occurs through digital devices such as mobile phones, computers and tablets. Cyberbullying can happen through text messages, texts and apps, as well as online through social media, forums or games where people view, participate in or share content. Cyberbullying involves sending, posting or sharing negative, harmful, false or vulgar content about another person, including sharing personal or private information about another person in order to cause embarrassment or humiliation.

Current Situation

Today is an era of advanced Internet. Although the Internet has brought many conveniences to people, there are also gray areas in the Internet, and that is cyberbullying. Regardless of the country, cyberbullies can bully others through the Internet, the following are examples of cyberbullying:

In August of 2022, a suicide case occurred in the urban area of Subang. An Indian girl chose to commit suicide because of cyberbullying.

Rose Veronica, the founder of Veron Academy, uploaded a video on her Tik Tok account in which she revealed that cyberbullying was the main cause of the death of the deceased. Because the deceased uploaded a video of herself dancing in various clothes on her TikTok, she was bullied by many netizens. In the end, she couldn't bear it and chose to commit suicide.

Future Vision

I think that in the future world, we can use technology and policies to protect the network environment, protect every network user, and combat cyber bullying users. Many anonymous users think that their malicious language will not bear legal responsibility, so they will unscrupulously say some malicious comments to attack others in order to vent their pressure. So in the future, we need to resist cyberbullying.

Solution

1. Identity verification is required for each social platform

In the future, each social platform can be encouraged to focus on identity verification, which can reduce anonymous users’ cyberbullying of others, balance user privacy and security issues, and consider using more secure identity verification measures, thereby reducing the possibility of anonymous users’ cyberbullying.

2. Enable network monitoring on sociallatforms

In the future, the government can encourage major platforms to establish effective monitoring methods for cyberbullying behavior, so that when users engage in verbal bullying, the network can detect such behavior and issue warnings to the user, which can effectively reduce cyberbullying.

3. Strengthen laws and regulations

In the future, the government can pay more attention to the laws of cyberbullying, because many people bully online because the laws are not strict. Therefore, the government can update and strengthen laws and regulations related to cyberbullying, which can ensure that bullies are subject to appropriate legal sanctions, thereby reducing the occurrence of cyberbullying.

Reflection

I think cyberbullying is a very serious thing because the verbal is as much as the physical pain. Many public figures suffer from depression due to malicious comments from all directions, and choose to commit suicide because of this, so the most annoying thing is that cyberbullying perpetrators do not have to bear any legal responsibility. So I think in the next 30-40 years, cyberbullying can be reduced, and fighting cyberbullyers is a long-term struggle.
